New Books
Out now, Being Somebody and Black Besides: An Untold Memoir of Midcentury Black Life is a memoir I co-edited with a friend. Written fifty years by Chicagoan George Nesbitt, it reflects on his family’s history, their participation in the Great Migration, and the Civil Rights Movement in the North.
I also contributed a chapter to International Brigade Against Apartheid, a history of the international movement to end apartheid in South Africa. While my chapter focuses on the support movement in the United States, the book also examines the armed campaign against the apartheid government and those who took tremendous risks in the fight for freedom.
